For centuries, the Greeks have used Flokati rugs in a variety of applications. Initially used by shepherds for clothing, tent beds, and warmth, the Flokati rug was also invented by these herders. These 5th century shepherd, or Vlachs, raised sheep and goats for the purpose of selling their dairy products. The Vlach women would then take the animal’s wool and hand weave the rugs to be sold at bazaars during the winter months. And so began the tradition of beautiful, hand-woven Flokati rugs.
