For hundreds of years Hemp has been used to make a variety of products like hemp rugs because it is very strong and economical to produce. Hemp products are environmentally friendly because the plant grows extremely quickly, requires little to no pesticides or herbicides to grow, controls erosion and produces oxygen. The bast fibers that grow on the outside of the stalk can be used in 100% hemp products, but are commonly blended with fibers such as flax, cotton or silk, for apparel and furnishings, most commonly at a 55%/45% hemp/cotton blend.
